Rotten Leg Disease
Rotten Leg Disease is a condition which first appeared in East central China early in WW2.
It is alleged by China (and others), that it was caused by the dropping, or depositing of pathogens in this area by Japan's Biological Weapons Unit.
As a (probable ) waterborn pathogen, it was especially effective against people in this area, or mostly lowlying land, semipermanently flooded, and predominatly rice-growing .
Not the fault of the residents, they had nowhere to drain water to, so the standing water was already quite polluted. The rice farmers were constantly walking in water that reached to halfway up the shin.
So naturally any disease entering the body would enter into the lower leg. Therefore the disease is called "Rotten Leg disease". However it spreads throughout the body from the leg, as pustules, boils and ulcerated lesions.
If you search "rotten leg disease" on Google, you will find descriptions of the disease, which describe mostly large lesions on the legs of the victims, but at least one site speaks of a woman whose face has almost disappeared under the lesion. So in fact it should be called Rotten Flesh Disease.
Most of the people who were infected, died in horrible agony, within 10 years of first infection. However, there were still a few survivors around early in this century (2000-2005).
Repeated attempts to get compensation for the victimas and their survivors, from the Japanese government, has to date yielded nothing. In fact the Japanese will not even acknowledge the disease.
Please feel free to comment! Do you beleive that japan carried out Biological Weapon deployment against China in 1940-1945. In particular do you believe the Rotten Leg (or Flesh) Disease was caused by Japanese Bio-weapons???
